Our Wind Energy Tax Policy – What it Means for the Industry and for Communities
Cheyenne, WY — On Wednesday, May 29th at Noon, the grassroots initiative Wyoming Tax Facts and the Equality State Policy Center will co-host a Tax Facts: Lunch & Learn webinar on Wyoming’s renewable energy industry with Kara Fornstrom, Director of the Center for Energy Regulation and Policy Analysis at the University of Wyoming.
As world markets and Wyoming’s electricity providers shift away from coal, wind is seen as Wyoming’s most viable renewable energy source available today. With large wind farms springing up across our landscape, the taxation of this resource has become a focal point for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the public. Director Fornstrom will walk us through the complexities surrounding the renewable energy industry, and how Wyoming is looking for ways to capture revenue from it.
“Tax revenues from fossil fuels have been our bread and butter for 50 years,” says Sue Sommers, founder of Wyoming Tax Facts. “Since no single resource can replace the historic value and reliability of our coal deposits, Wyoming faces an uncomfortable challenge. Policymakers looking for ways to broaden our tax base see wind energy as one avenue to help safeguard our state’s economic future.”
Join us as we review Wyoming’s expanding renewable energy landscape, explore how it is taxed now versus potential policy changes, and discuss the economic implications for the industry and Wyoming residents. Whether you’re a concerned citizen, policymaker, or industry professional, this webinar offers valuable insights into a topic that is shaping the future of energy – and the future of revenues supporting state and local services – in Wyoming.
