Founded in 1993
A group of organizations formed the Equality State Policy Center (ESPC) for the purpose of conducting research, educational and organizing activities relating to public policy issues, principles of democracy and accountable government in Wyoming. By ESPC attending to these foundational elements related to our government, our founding organizations could better focus their specific policy issues impacting their members. This initial visionary coalition included: Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, Powder River Basin Resource Council, Teamsters Local 307, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7, United Transportation Union (now Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation, aka SMART Union), Wyoming Chapter of the Sierra Club, Wyoming Education Association, Wyoming Outdoor Council, Wyoming State AFL-CIO, and Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association.
Over the years, ESPC has maintained its non-partisan membership coalition of organizations aligning with one of the three major interest pillars of social justice, labor, and conservation. ESPC advances fair elections and transparent government in support of all Wyoming communities - including the individual members and supporters of our membership organizations, as well as the individuals across the state who have joined in supporting the mission of ESPC.
Democracy works better for all hard-working Wyomingites when it is inclusive and accessible to all citizens.
Civic Engagement
Through Equality State Policy Center’s (ESPC) educational programming, policy research, and special projects, we encourage civic engagement for hardworking Wyomingites. Wyoming is a stronger community when citizens participate in civic life by VOTING, participating in state and local government policy decision making processes, holding elected officials accountable to their constituents, running for political office, serving on boards, and staying informed on relevant local issues affecting day to day life in Wyoming.
