Meet Our Expert Presenter: Rebecca Chavez-Houck
Former Utah state legislator Rebecca Chavez-Houck holds a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication and a Master of Public Administration (MPA), both from the University of Utah (U of U). She represented the northeast quadrant of Salt Lake City in the Utah House of Representatives for ten years, focusing primarily on public policy related to health and human services, as well as voter engagement and access. Her leadership appointments included: House Minority Whip and House Minority Assistant Whip.
Rebecca now provides leadership coaching and community engagement consulting through her public affairs firm, Aspira Public Affairs, LLC. Rebecca taught nonprofit management courses in the U of U’s School of Public Affairs and holds an eCornell Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion. She has been honored extensively for her efforts.
Born and raised in Utah, Rebecca came to the state legislature with a 20-year track record as a media relations and public affairs staffer for a variety of Utah nonprofits, including Centro de la Familia de Utah, Natural History Museum of Utah, and Girl Scouts of Utah. Over the year Rebecca has served as a governance volunteer for myriad Utah and national nonprofits - currently, serving in governance roles for the following organizations: Ranked Choice Voting Resource Center, The Salt Lake Tribune, Altabank, Stewardship Utah, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, University of Utah National Advisory Council, Girl Scouts of the USA (National Board Development Committee, non-board member), Compassion and Choices (Latino Leadership Council), & Utah RCV.
